The country of Dubai teamed up with South African billionaire Sol Kerzner to market and promote the new Palm Atlantis resort. The extravaganza reportedly cost $20 million and included a firework display so large that it could be seen from space. The star studded jet setting crowd included 2,000 guests on a man-made island in the shape of a palm, and the champagne flowed freely at the grand opening reception. Guests were also served a dinner including Atlantic lobster and tiger prawns by star restaurateur Nobu Matsuhisa. The resort also features the most expensive hotel room in the world, a 924 square-meter Bridge Suite, which costs 155,000 dirhams -- that is $42,000 usd per night and does not include breakfast.
Come on -- for $42k, at least they should throw in a continental breakfast.
