GM plants closings have ripple effect

A supplier to the GM plant in Janesville will begin mass layoffs Dec. 23 -- the same day GM is ending production of sports utility vehicles there. Lear Corp told the state Department of Workforce Development on Friday it will lay off 371 workers beginning on that date. Lear supplies interiors and seating systems to the GM plant at Janesville. When GM eliminated a second shift at the Janesville plant earlier this year, Lear had announced layoffs of 336 workers as of July 14.
